Tips & Tricks For The Working Day

Hello lovelies,

I've been wanting to write up this post for the longest time! If you know me, you'll know I spend a lot of time at work. I'm probably there more than I am at home! I'm very lucky to say that I do really love my job, but sometimes I'll have those days where everything is just too much. I've put together a few pointers on how to make that working day a bit less stressful & hopefully it can inspire you if you're having one of those days too!

1. Keep hydrated
I'm an absolute nightmare for drinking water throughout the day. Mainly because I dislike water. It just tastes so bland. What I find really helps is if I can see it infront of me. I keep a bottle of orange squash in my locker at all times, so I can just pop into the office & top it up. My other tip for this point is having a 'fun' bottle. I don't mean anything like a kid's beaker with flashing lights.. I just mean something more appealing than a plain plastic bottle. I have a glass jar with a straw that I take in, filled with a few fruit shaped ice cubes & it makes the squash so much more appealing to drink! Maybe it's a psychological thing, but it really works!

2. Take a break
& yes, I mean a proper break. I know I'm guilty for leaving my desk & going & sitting away from my computer, only to pick up my mobile & spend my break scrolling through social media. I always feel so much better when I take my eyes away from a screen, either but sitting & actually concentrating on my food, or by reading a book, which leads me onto my next point..

3. Take a book to work
If you know me personally, you'll know I only tend to read when I'm on holiday. I just can't "find the time" to read in every day life. This we all know is bullshit. (however, I still can't justify that there is time to go to the gym everyday.. you're super talented if you manage to fit that in!) I've recently loved taking a book to work & completely immersing myself in it. If you don't feel like reading a fictional book, you could always take a puzzle, activity or colouring in book. I quite often take my copy of Calm. It's perfect for when you're feeling a bit anxious & I find when I return to my desk I feel completely refreshed & ready to start work again.

4. Go outside
I work in a building that looks out onto the outside world. You can see everyone pottering around, doing every day things & walking from A to B. So why is it when my half an hour break comes around, I decide to go & sit in the back room, away from the sunlight eating my lunch / dinner. Crazy. As the weather has been so nice recently, I've made myself cross the road & head into the park. It bemuses me why I never thought this was an option before, but now I try to go out whenever I can (weather permitting) even if it is just for a short walk & I actually eat outside. Just like reading a book, I come back feeling totally refreshed.

5. Take a healthy lunch / dinner
I work shifts, so I could be working anytime between 9.30am & 8.30pm. This usually means if I'm on a day shift, lunch for me will be around 2pm & if I'm on a late, usually around 6pm. I can't stress how important it is to take food with you to work. There is nothing worse than sitting there starving at 4pm, looking at the clock, waiting for the shift to finish. I always try to take a piece of fruit, I've been loving raspberries & strawberries recently, alongside a salad or sandwich. Being hungry at work really can effect your mood, so make sure you make time to bring food with you.

6. Wear clothes that give you confidence
A lot of work places have uniforms, mine is smart dress & it must be either black or white. I actually quite like our dress-code, as it gives you freedom to wear your own clothes plus I'm able to separate work from day-to-day wear as I love being able to wear colour when I'm not working. However, some days I get into my work clothes & nothing looks right. This is where my underwear comes in. I hope I'm not the only one who feels so much more confident when they know they are wearing their favourite pair of pants under their work uniform? Haha! It really does make a difference.. give it a try!

7. Always remember:
"Everyone you meet is fighting their own battle you know nothing about. Be Kind, Always."
If you work in customer service like I do, this quote is very difficult to remember when you're getting abuse thrown in your face for a reason you have no control over. It can be hard, but always remember to this person who is currently shouting at you, in a few months time, they won't even remember it happened. I've had it multiple times where a customer has come back in, I've instantly remembered their face & the conversation we've had, but they have no recognition of it even taking place. It hasn't effected their life, so why should it effect yours? Just smile & let it slide because it's not a personal attack on you.

I hope this gave you a few pointers & it will help you get through that never ending day! Let me know what you do to make the day go a bit quicker! : )

5 Things To Do Before You Go To Sleep..

..to make the morning that little bit easier.

I saw one of these lists on Pinterest & thought it would good to write my own, so here's a few tips to do the night before to make early mornings more bearable.

1. Removing your makeup.
I really struggle with this one, just because I'm so lazy but I have recently been forcing myself to do it before going to bed. I think it's easier if you literally come home & remove it straight away instead of leaving it till your exhausted & just want to curl up in bed. I use the Garnier Miceller Cleansing Water with the Boots Cotton Wool Pads & find all my makeup is just wiped away, leaving my face feeling fresh when I wake up.

2. Moisturise your skin
Again, working on doing this more, but I find waiting for moisturiser to dry after your morning shower before putting on your clothes for the day, takes so long! Perfect solution, do it the night before & it doesn't really matter if it gets on your pjs. I'm loving using the body butters from the Body Shop, they just leave my skin feeling so soft the next day. My favourite to use at the moment is the Shea Body Butter, it just smells so good!

3. Plan your outfit
This is such a good tip & one I started to do when I was in college. In secondary school, we had a uniform so that was easy to get up & put the same old shirt, tie & skirt on each day, but when college started & we had to make sure we were dressed to impress (laughing so hard at some of the outfits I wore back then!) it always helped to plan the night before. I still do that now for work. We don't have a uniform as such, but we do have to wear either black or white, so I do always get out my top & skirt / trousers the night before & make sure they don't need ironing or anything that's going to take time in the morning.

4. Make a packed lunch
This one is essential! How many of you get up & think "Ah 5 more minutes in bed & I'll just pick up something from the café". Making a packed lunch before bed has saved me countless pennies & is also a lot healthier. I can control exactly what I plan on eating & I'm not tempted to pick up that unhealthy snack on my way to work.

5. Sort out your bag
This applies to whether your off to school, work or out for the day, you always take different items with you. For example, if I'm heading to work in the car & parking right next to the building, I won't need an umbrella which takes up vital room in my handbag, or if your popping to the shops, make sure you've got all those bags ready so your not charged for buying the whole biscuit aisle! I always try to imagine my routine throughout the day to know what I'm going to need & when. It really helps when your out & about.

What are your tips & tricks for making sure you're ready to start the day? I'd love to know : )

How To Jazz Up The LBD - Gold Theme

If you follow me on Twitter, you'll know I've been posting about getting my hands on the perfect Christmas dress. This year however, I decided I probably have a ton of dresses that haven't ventured out of my wardrobe in ages or ever at all.. so after a bit of digging & modelling round the house, I decided to go for the simplest, best dress I own. The little black number.

You might be thinking "It's Christmas girl, you can't wear black!" Well don't you worry - I jazzed it up! & here's how..

1. I bought this dress from Clobber a couple of months ago. You're actually looking at the dress back to front, I wanted to show you the necklines. It's alot lower at the back than the front & manages to sit just above where the back of your bra would be. It's a skater dress & comes to just above my knee. It's such a flattering shape. I bought it in a size 10, which is my normal size, but it is quite tight around my middle, so I'd suggest definitely trying on the size above.

2. This is just a simple gold glitter belt I bought from Primark, for around £2 I think. The dress originally came with a plain black belt, but using any coloured belt on a simple black dress will instantly pull in your waist & draw attention to your figure.

3. This is the Metallic Cream Eyeshadow Collection 2000 have just released. I featured this colour & the Rock N Rose in a recent post. It is the most stunning gold colour, using this on your eyelids will attract alot of attention, mainly because of the gorgeous metallic effect. Use it with Maybelline's Cat's Eye Mascara for extra length & volume to your eyelashes for extra flirtiness. ; )

4. Let me say first of all *E.L.F haul coming soon* I made my first order of E.L.F cosmetics the other week & found this gorgeous nail varnish. It's actually a gold top coat, but I wore it just as glitter varnish for Christmas day. Unlike other nail varnishes that have either fine or large glitter specs, this one has a mixture. So beautiful.

Remember, keep your hair simple. I wore my hair up in a high messy bun. Or you could try a side pony tail or plait, but make sure you don't hide the neckline by covering it up with your hair as this is one of the main elements of the outfit. Showing off your neck gives off a sutle sexiness.

I apologise there are no pictures of me actually wearing the dress, I was so ill this year, I stayed in my dress for the duration of our meal then changed into my pj's for comfort. Haha! So about 2 hours in total. Oh well, it did get some wear & my family gave me lots of compliments on it. : )

If you want to catch up on what I've been doing recently, I posted a little update on Boxing Day. Thankyou to all my new followers for following, I'm sorry if I haven't been able to visit you back yet, I'm going to still be busy with Panto till early January. Lots of love to you all, I promise I'll get down to it once the New Year is here. What are you all planning for New Year? : )
